Using Our Products in Daz Studio
3D Universe products are built to work seamlessly inside Daz Studio, whether you install them using Daz Install Manager (DIM) or load them through the Smart Content tab.
Two supported installation methods
Our products follow Daz’s standard directory and metadata conventions. This means you can install them using:
- Daz Install Manager (DIM) — recommended for most users
- Smart Content inside Daz Studio
Installing with Daz Install Manager (DIM)
- Download and install Daz Install Manager from your Daz account.
- Log in using the same Daz account you used to purchase the product.
- Ensure your Content Path in DIM matches the one used by Daz Studio.
- Select the product and click Install.
- Launch Daz Studio — the product will be ready to use.
DIM handles file placement automatically and is the safest option if you’re unsure where files should go.
Using Smart Content in Daz Studio
If metadata is installed, you can access products through the Smart Content tab:
- Open Daz Studio
- Go to the Smart Content pane
- Filter by Figures, Wardrobe, Props, or Materials
- Double-click an item to load it into the scene
Smart Content automatically shows compatible items for the selected figure (for example, Genesis 9).
Loading products manually (Content Library)
You can also load products directly from the Content Library:
- Open the Content Library pane
- Navigate to Daz Studio Formats → My Daz 3D Library
- Browse to the product folder
- Double-click the desired file to load it
Typical Daz Studio product directory structure
Below is a simplified example of how a typical Daz Studio product is organised inside your content library:
My Daz 3D Library/
├── data/
│ └── VendorName/
│ └── ProductName/
│ ├── Geometry files (.dsf)
│ └── Morph data
├── People/
│ └── Genesis 9/
│ └── Clothing/
│ └── ProductName/
│ ├── Wearable presets (.duf)
│ └── Support files
├── Props/
│ └── VendorName/
│ └── ProductName/
│ └── Prop presets (.duf)
└── Runtime/
└── Textures/
└── VendorName/
└── ProductName/
├── Diffuse / Base Color maps
├── Normal maps
└── Roughness / Opacity maps
You generally do not need to interact with these folders directly — DIM and Daz Studio handle this for you.
Common issues & tips
- If a product doesn’t appear, confirm Daz Studio is using the same content path as DIM.
- Refresh the Smart Content database if items don’t show up immediately.
- Load figures first, then clothing or poses for best compatibility.
- Materials are applied after the item is loaded into the scene.
